New Jersey&#8217;s Acting Attorney raised charges against five individuals allegedly involved in the scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"five-people-allegedly-lift-millions-by-using-fake-checks-face-charges\">Five People Allegedly Lift Millions by Using Fake Checks, Face Charges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Acting Attorney General Andrew Bruck<\/strong> in New Jersey announced indictments against five individuals on Thursday this week. The individuals allegedly <strong>conspired to steal some $1,120,000 <\/strong>from casinos in Atlantic City <strong>by using fake bank checks<\/strong>. With the help of fake bank checks in exchange for the equivalent amount in gaming chips, the scheme resulted in significant losses for five casinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, each of the individuals was charged with <strong>second-degree conspiracy<\/strong> as well as various counts of second-degree theft by deception and attempted theft by deception. The indictment impacted <strong>Sen Ge<\/strong>, 29, of Flushing, <strong>Peng Cai<\/strong>, 33, of Brooklyn, and <strong>Shuai Liu<\/strong>, 30, of College Point, New York. Additionally, charges were filed against <strong>Qingtao Zhang<\/strong>, 53, as well as <strong>Xiuhuan Zhang<\/strong>, 65, both of Flushing, New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>The defendants were caught executing a sophisticated financial scheme spanning multiple casinos and over a million dollars in fraudulent checks<\/em><\/p><cite>said Acting Attorney General Bruck<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The charges come after an investigation conducted by the NJ State Police Casino Gaming Bureau in collaboration with the Division of Criminal Justice Specialized Crimes Bureau. According to the court&#8217;s announcement, <strong>Qingtao Zhang was arrested on September 7<\/strong> in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, following a warrant from the investigation. Currently, there are <strong>outstanding warrants for the arrest of the other defendants<\/strong>. Additionally, the court is investigating other people who have allegedly participated in the fraudulent activities as accomplices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-scam-led-to-losses-for-five-casinos\">The Scam Led to Losses for Five Casinos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.njoag.gov\/acting-ag-bruck-announces-indictment-charging-five-with-stealing-1-1-million-from-atlantic-city-casinos-by-using-false-bank-checks-to-obtain-gaming-chips\/\">court papers reveal<\/a> that the scam was allegedly conducted back in August this year. Between <strong>August 26 and August 28<\/strong>, the two women, Xiuhuan Zhang and Qingtao Zhang, allegedly <strong>used fake checks at five different casinos<\/strong>. Liu, Cai and Ge allegedly aided the women multiple times along with other accomplices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Victims of the scam were <strong>Caesars, Borgata, Ocean, Hard Rock, as well as the Golden Nugget<\/strong>. Allegedly, Xiuhuan Zhang presented fake checks for $150,000 issued by TD Bank, while Qingtao Zhang presented fake checks for $134,000 from the Bank of America. The court claims that each of the casinos was presented with an identical check while the defendants wanted to exchange the checks for gaming chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, the total amount which was allegedly stolen is $1,120,000. From that total, Golden Nugget and Ocean Casino Resort <strong>suffered from a $134,000 loss each<\/strong>. On the other hand, Caesars, Borgata and Hard Rock <strong>lost $284,000 each<\/strong>. Golden Nugget reduced its losses by responding to Xiuhuan Zhang that she can only receive &#8220;incremental amounts from the check,&#8221; while Hard Rock denied the $150,000 check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acting Attorney Bruck outlined that the <strong>defendants executed a sophisticated scheme<\/strong>. He added that the scheme was used to scam multiple casinos where the defendants allegedly <strong>lifted millions of dollars thanks to the fake checks<\/strong>.
