Washington State Reviews New Sports Betting Bills <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Washington State has started 2020 with a slew of sports bills up for\ndebate. Senate Bill 6277<\/strong> has made its way to the Senate Labor and\nCommerce Committee. A sister bill, House Bill 2478<\/strong> landed in the House\nCommerce and Gaming Committee in the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both bills are pushing for the legalization of sports betting in the\nstate. Under SB 6227, known simply as the Sports Wagering Act<\/strong> in\nWashington State, all authorized sports venues will be subject to 10% tax. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key sponsors of the bill are Republican Senators<\/strong> Curtis King<\/strong>\nand Ann Rivers<\/strong> who are both looking forward to establishing the state as\na jurisdiction in which sports betting is permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pennsylvania Hits $1.26bn in Total Sports Handle in First Financial Half-Year <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pennsylvania generated $1.26 billion off sports wagering in the first\nhalf of the 19\/20 financial year<\/strong>. The revenue over the period hit $91.4\nmillion, a fair number in line with the early estimates in the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Keystone State first launched its\nsports wagering activities in May<\/strong> 2019<\/strong><\/a> and it has raked up the aforementioned\ntotal handle through December 31<\/strong>, 2019<\/strong>. This means that\nPennsylvania has yet not had the chance to benefit from March Madness or Super\nBowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players wagered $1 billion online, establishing the online segment as\nthe biggest driver of revenue when it comes to sports betting. Retail has\nposted a rather modest turnout, with the state\u2019s land-based operators\ngenerating merely $260 million, even though they had been running seven months\nlonger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky Headed Towards Sports Betting Legalization \u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kentucky has sent House Bill 137<\/strong> to the Licensing, Occupations\n& Administrative Committee<\/strong> to get the necessary approval and continue\non its road to fully-legalizing the industry<\/a>. If cleared and voted in, BH 137 would\nallow the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to create a framework and for\ninterested parties to apply for a license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the current forecasts stand, Kentucky will be charged 10.25% for\nretail sports betting while online betting would also be allowed, but taxed at\na higher rate at 14.25%. All sports bettors would need to register in person at\na land-based venue before proceeding to place their wagers remotely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current bill also asks for $500,000 for a license as well as a\n$50,000 renewal fee that will be paid upon a set period of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DraftKings Makes a Bolder Move on Las Vegas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As DraftKings continues to expand throughout the US market, the operator\nset up a new office in Las Vegas, Nevada last week. DraftKings is bringing a\ndedicated staff across each of its key verticals, to name casino, customer\nexperience, sportsbook traders, fraud prevention as well as human resources and\nIT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 300 employees should be employed at the new venue and help\nthe sportsbook boost its footprint and scale of operation in the United States.\nThis comes on the tail of an agreement between SBTech<\/strong> and DraftKings<\/strong>\nwhereby the sportsbook agreed to be acquired by\nthe former<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DraftKings has boosted its footprint at an impressive rate. Since\nOctober 2018, DraftKings has increased its employment base by 40%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delaware, A Minnow in an Upswing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Delaware\u2019s iGaming revenue has climbed up to $3.6 million posting a\nstable 38.5% increase year-over-year (YOY)<\/strong>. As one of the smallest gaming\nmarkets, Delaware has very limited potential for growth, but local operators\nhave been hoping to retain the market\u2019s share nevertheless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players spent a total of $127.9 million on various online gambling activities.\nDelaware Park was again the leading operator in terms of revenue, keeping $1.43\nmillion. Dover Downs was a close second with $1.39 million and Harrington\nRaceway posted the smallest results with $755,136. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congressional Gaming Caucus Relaunches Backed by US Lawmakers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Congressional Gaming Caucus<\/strong>, a body tasked with defending the\ninterests of gambling companies with US lawmakers, has been re-launched,\ncourtesy of the initiative of US Representatives Bennie Thompson<\/strong> and Guy\nReschenthaler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Caucus has reunited 30 lawmakers who come from various states in the\ncountry. Commenting on this development, Rep. Reschenthaler explained that the\nindustry in the United States has left its traditional bastions, i.e. Nevada\nand New Jersey, and was now spreading across the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, a caucus focused on advancing mutually-beneficial policies were\nnecessary, he concluded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Mobile Betting Bill a Reality \u2013 Goes through Committee Stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mobile sports betting in New York is still in the process of threshing\nout the last details. However, as of last week, Senate Bill 17, has progressed\nout of the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee<\/strong> winning 7-0\nvotes and now headed to the Senate Committee on Finance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If passed successfully, New York businesses that own a sports betting\nlicense may soon start offering mobile wagering options, boosting the overall\nhandle and engagement. One of the key issues in the Empire State presently \u2013 in\nterms of fetching the best possible value from gambling activities \u2013 is to make\nsports betting products more accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one of the top priorities of the 2020 legislative station, Senator Joseph\nAddabbo<\/strong>, Chair of the Racing Gaming and Wagering Committee, will continue\nto push for a more liberal NY sports betting market, which includes mobile\nbetting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
