Golden Nugget has inked a deal with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, which operates two Ojibwa Casino properties in Michigan. Under the partnership, the company’s Golden Nugget Online Gaming and Ojibwa Casino will launch online gaming and sports betting in the state.
Golden Nugget is effectively pushing beyond its traditional market in New Jersey where the company has established a sizeable and recognizable footprint for itself.
Sharing his opinions on the latest developments, Golden Nugget Online Gaming president Thomas Winter said that Michigan consumers would be able to appreciate the quality product by his company, which had already become synonymous with excellence in the Garden State.
Golden Nugget is specifically teaming up with two properties owned by Ojibwa Casino, one in Marquette and one in Baraga. Chris Swartz, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community president, commended Golden Nugget for the company’s quality online and sports betting solutions.
Michigan is expecting to launch sports betting before the end of 2020 and iGaming operations in 2021.
In other news this week:
Tipico, a German iGaming operator, is making a move on the United States. The company believes that its established footprint back home and ability to develop next-generation industry software will help it make a meaningful entry into the New Jersey market in the autumn.
The company has already set up its headquarters in Hoboken, NJ. Citing the company’s experience, US managing director Adrian Vella, argued that Tipico had been running European sportsbooks for over 15 years.
According to Vella, New Jersey is one of the best states where Tipico may seek to set-up the base of its operations. While the competition in the state will be significant at first, with FanDuel and DraftKings already running strong in the Garden State, Tipico believes it can add distinct innovative features to their offer.
One of the planned moves is to team up with Digilant, a company that specializes in running social media campaigns, which will hopefully allow the company to gain quick recognition among local sports fans.
The latest operator to enter West Virginia on July 15 was DraftKings. The company launched its iGaming casino app live, over a year after the state had passed legislation allowing online gaming activities to start.
With an established footprint in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, DraftKings is giving a clear signal that the company is prepared to run a multi-state offer. Powered by International Game Technology (IGT), Scientific Games and Slingo, DraftKings is looking at a growing clout in the iGaming space.
Online gaming in West Virginia was passed into law with the help of HB 2934 in March 2019 and since that time, the state has seen more operator start their operations. There has been some pushback because of the ill-timed Wire Act Opinion that was introduced at the beginning of 2019, throwing a major upset in cross-border gaming.
Yet, DraftKings has continued to expand its clout in the United States and specifically now when a nation-wide lockdown has prompted lawmakers to reevaluate their aversion to online gambling and wagering.
Starting today, Friday July 17, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has issued a permission for land-based casinos to restart in the province. After a nearly four-month hiatus which saw all properties, and the better part of other businesses shut down in March, customers will finally have a chance to return to the casino floor.
However, this will happen under strict restrictions limiting occupancy and enacting various safety and health measures in a bid to keep everyone safe. On the casino floor, there will be no more than 50 customers.
Venues across the entire province have decided to benefit from the order and restart operations in the North and West Gaming Bundle, which are localized hubs where casinos mostly operate in.
However, the OLG has cautioned that the health and safety of customers and employees remained of the utmost priority and further shutdowns aren’t ruled out.
Casinos in Detroit, Michigan, have reported a colossal loss amounting to 59.3% of their total revenue in the first six months of 2020. The decline isn’t as rapid as some have feared, but it has bitten into the state’s coffers. So much, in fact, that Michigan is hurrying up to expedite sports betting and online gambling legislation that would allow players to start betting before 2020 is out.
Online gaming is coming next in 2021. Michigan’s three casinos, all located in Detroit, include MGM Grand, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino. Of the three, MGM Grand Detroit suffered the biggest loss, with the revenue declining 59.3%.
Mohegan Sun Casino has become the official betting partner of Betfred in Las Vegas. As a result, Betfred will set up the tribal operator’s sportsbook as part of the 60,000-square feet of gaming area earmarked by Mohegan Sun Casino for the purpose of casino and sports betting gaming.
The sportsbook will feature a premium seating lounge, a number of self-serving kiosks, and over-the-counter wagering options. Both Betfred and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), the company operating the Las Vegas venue, have expressed their satisfaction and high hopes to set a new standard for sports betting in the Silver State.
One of the more significant achievements of the reopening push in Atlantic City is the return of Borgata, AC. The venue will reopen on Sunday, July 26 with limited capacity. The property offers a massive 106,000 square feet of event space as well as 2,000 guest rooms, not least a state-of-the-art casino.
When Borgata reopens next week, it will feature a quality outdoor dining experience, as well as a convenient takeout program to help foodies always steal a bite. The venues will be operating at reduced capacity and 25% of operational limit.
