North Dakota Prepares to Launch Sports Betting

North Dakota has made its long awaited entry into the sports betting scene. This launch is as a result of the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018.  Individual states can now enjoy the freedom to dictate and lay down their own rules regarding sports betting, and North Dakota is among them.

Gaming enthusiasts in North Dakota can now place wagers on popular sporting activities in their locale, especially on the North Dakota State football (a powerhouse of the Football Championship Subdivision). Bettors could only wager on such competitions through international platforms, but locals can now express their gaming desires in-house.

Mobile betting has become a worldwide phenomenon, except in North Dakota. In line with this, tribal and state officials have confined wagering to the Dakota Nation Sportsbook.

Tribal Betting in North Dakota

Unfortunately, there have been endless failed attempts to make commercialized gambling legal all over North Dakota. As of now, only tribal venues and casinos such as the Dakota Magic Casino have the authority to welcome fans to make wagers.

Additionally, the Dakota Magic Casino, owned and operated by Dakota Nation Gaming Enterprise has partnered with IGT. This company is one of the most renowned gaming developers worldwide.

This union propels the quest to make sports betting in North Dakota as lucrative as in other American states.

The Dakota Magic Casino is located in Hankinson, which is one of three towns bettors can wager legally at. Others include:

  • Dakota Connection – Sisseton
  • Dakota Sioux – Watertown

It is yet to be determined the level of geographical expansion of sports betting in the future.

Sports Betting Launch Date in North Dakota

Gamers and bettors are on their toes regarding the launch date of sports betting in North Dakota. Reports state that gamblers might be able to place bets as early as 1st December. However, regulatory specifications might lead to postponement to January 2022.

However, North Dakota has received official approval from the American Gaming Association. Therefore, wagering is now live and legal, making the gaming process better for all stakeholders.

Evolution of Sports Betting in North Dakota

At the moment, tribal gaming rules the sports betting sphere in North Dakota. Its commercialization is yet to be successful due to opposition on legal and political grounds.  Undeniably, making wagering live and legal is a huge step towards the right direction.

Gaming enthusiasts in North Dakota will have the opportunity and platforms to place bets without breaking the law. Hopefully, mobile gaming will receive the green light, to include gaming and betting on the go.

States like South Dakota benefit from revolutionary developments in the betting and gambling scene. This move by North Dakota puts the state in a great position for investors and stakeholders in the sports gambling industry.
