Connecticut Casinos

Connecticut Casinos Badge

Whether you’re living in Connecticut or just passing by, you should consider visiting a possibly underrated industry in the state — land-based casinos. Even though the Constitution State isn’t exactly known for its affinity toward gambling, there are still some valid options for both visitors and locals.

Currently, the state of Connecticut has only two land-based tribal casinos located near the coastline, with another casino expected in the near future. However, given that this state is one of the smallest ones in the US, it’s easy to drive down to the casinos and enjoy some top-notch entertainment.

Foxwoods Casino

Located: 350 Trolley Line Blvd, Ledyard, CT 06338, United States

Website: www.foxwoods.com

Rating: 4/5 stars (2,945 Tripadvisor)

Situated in the tribe reservation in Ledyard, CT, Foxwoods Resort Casino is the largest casino in the state and the second-largest in the US. The first land-based casino in Connecticut has an interesting origin story.

Since the casino is owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, they had to sue the state to open the gambling facility. The state allowed “Las Vegas Nights” with low-stakes casino games for charity. Therefore, the tribe argued they should be able to do the same — they won, and that’s how the Foxwoods Resort Casino CT came to be.

Today, this complex has two hotel towers with over 2,000 rooms, six casinos, several restaurants, and even a Hard Rock Cafe. The gaming area of the Foxwoods Casino includes over 250 tables for blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, and over 5,500 slot machines. Furthermore, this facility has a poker room with 114 tables, making it the third-largest poker room in the world.

In addition to all these features, Foxwoods Resort Casino also has a Tanger Outlet Mall located between the two hotel towers. The mall has over 80 stores filled with luxury goods.

Mohegan Sun

Located: 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd, Uncasville, CT 06382, United States

Website: www.mohegansun.com

Rating: 4.5/5 stars (3,598 Tripadvisor)

In Connecticut, the second tribe casino is the Mohegan Sun Casino, owned and operated by the Mohegan tribe. The casino complex of 364,000 square feet is located on the Thames River banks in Uncasville, CT.

The gaming facility has over 6,000 slot machines and more than 350 gaming tables that host blackjack, baccarat, poker, roulette, and craps. Aside from the rich selection of gambling opportunities, Mohegan Sun features various lounges, restaurants, over 100,000 square feet of the retail shopping area, and the Northeast’s largest ballroom.

Casino of the Sky

Located: 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd, Uncasville, CT 06382, United States

Website: www.mohegansun.com/casino-of-the-sky

Rating: 4.5/5 stars (1,711 Google Reviews)

Casino of the Sky is the largest indoor planetarium dome in the world. It’s located within the Mohegan Sun Casino complex. The dome features over 110,000 square feet of gaming space with 1,800 slot machines and 90 fantastic table games

Launched in 2001, Casino of the Sky quickly became the biggest attraction in the Mohegan Sun Casino. Apart from the gaming area, Casino of the Sky has a 55-foot indoor waterfall, an exclusive lounge, and a mesmerizing glass sculpture.

Based on what we’ve seen, quality comes before quantity in Connecticut. With two land-based casinos, the state manages to provide its residents and tourists with unforgettable gambling experience.

However, it seems like the state isn’t in a hurry to introduce online casinos to the public. Up until this moment, Connecticut hasn’t legalized any forms of online gambling. According to some resources, the state is currently considering the legalization of online sportsbooks.

As far as online casinos are concerned, we might see some improvements soon. Namely, the Mashantucket Pequot tribe that owns and operates the Foxwood casino has partnered up with a venture capital company called Victory Square Ventures. Their goal is to build Foxwoods and Victory Square Ventures Living Lab to create new gambling technology. Therefore, we can only assume that we’ll see some online casinos shortly.

Until that happens, players interested in online gambling can either drive down to neighboring states, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where all forms of online gambling are legal, or they can sign up in licensed offshore casinos. If you choose the second option, we need to emphasize the importance of picking a reliable international casino. That way, you can minimize the risk of potential problems with payments or your casino account.
