The Parx Casino and Racetrack in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, has been granted permission to build a new hotel as part of a massive multi-million dollar expansion project. The construction was approved by a majority vote by the Bensalem Township Council on Monday. It would have a 300-room, 13-story hotel with a rooftop restaurant, event space for weddings and conferences, a fitness facility, and a spa.
It is anticipated that the hotel would draw in tourists from far and wide, adding to the already thriving atmosphere of the nearby casino. According to Council Vice President Joseph Pilieri, “there will be no casino in Pennsylvania that will compete with us.” He believes the new addition to the Parx property takes the casino to “the next level of being a destination.”
During the council hearing, Michael Meginniss, the attorney for Parx Casino, expounded on the facility’s features. With 32 rooms spread out across 11 stories, he revealed that the hotel will have direct access to the casino through an adjoining walkway. The rooftop fine dining establishment will seat around 260 people and provide a breathtaking panorama of Philadelphia. One of the hotel’s two eateries will be housed in the lobby, while the other will be on the penthouse level.
In addition to the standard suites, the hotel also offers presidential suites on the penthouse level. Located on the ground floor and first floor, the banquet hall can accommodate up to 800 people during a sit-down dinner and may be divided into smaller sections for more private gatherings. The hotel and conference hall will be situated next to an event lawn, making it a great location for outdoor gatherings.
The hotel will be known as the “Parx Casino Hotel,” and Marriott will serve as the brand standard for the development of the hotel’s theme and amenities. There will be no outside advertising or promotion for any of the two eateries. According to John Dixon, chief operating officer of Parx Casino, the lobby restaurant will include a demonstration kitchen where patrons can observe renowned chefs at work.
This development coincides with other neighboring casinos’ efforts to improve their offerings to visitors, further solidifying Pennsylvania’s standing as a premier gaming destination. Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia debuted in early 2021, while Valley Forge Casino Resort has overnight rooms in its Casino Tower and Stardust Tower.
Soon after this year’s completion, development on the Parx Casino Hotel may commence, with an anticipated opening in 2025. It is intended that the expansion would further strengthen Parx’s position as a leading entertainment and leisure destination, hence increasing tourism in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
